Sabre

CAC AVON SABRE (F-86)

A total of 10 Sabre aircraft were donated by the Australian government to the RMAF in October 1969. Thus No. 11 Squadron RMAF was formed. These aircraft were employed in the air defence role, ground attack and air support operations.
The Sabres introduced the RMAF to flight simulator training and single seat fighter operations. The aircraft was basically employed in the air defence role and had good workouts with the RAFF GCI radars; and later on with the RMAF's newly acquired S600 Marconi radars.
No. 11 Squadron was disbanded in 1975 and replaced by the Northrop F5E's. The Sabres then ended up as gate guardians; four went to the Indonesian Air Force and two came to the Museum.
